To execute efficiently, you need to feel comfortable
behind the drum set with the shortest distance between you and the
surfaces you are striking. By doing so, you will help maximize your
endurance and stroke consistency. In some cases, younger or less
experienced players concern themselves with the visual rather than
the practical aspects of their set up. Having your cymbal stands
several feet above your head is one example.
Your posture while seated on the drum throne also
affects the way your drums are positioned.
Sitting up straight will create a consistent balance
of volume levels between your limbs. If you lean to one side of
your set up for example, the instruments on that side may be lower
in volume because your ear is closer to the drums.
Correct posture also helps your endurance and
will prevent back injury. Practicing in front of a mirror, video
taping your performances, and analyzing your body movements can
help you make ergonomic adjustments to your set up.
